Most desks we've built have been for small home office use where a computer system was integral to the design. Because computers are usually accompanied by printers, and sometimes by scanners, we've provided under desk spaces for them, most frequently on pull-out shelves behind doors. Doing that lends a clean, uncluttered appearance to the unit. The same is true for file storage.
