Curly Maple Queen Ann Tea Table

Curly Maple Queen Anne Style Tea Table

The words Queen Anne are used to reference a style of furniture that was thought to have started during the reign of this well known British monarch. In reality, her reign was only for twelve years at the beginning of 18th century, and this style did not make its appearance until several years after her death. This epoch very roughly covers the last 80 years of the 18th century. The one characteristic that best delineates this style of furniture is the use of graceful curves which is clearly seen in the variety of cabriole legs that are integral to numerous types of furniture. Other characteristics include the curved back splat on chairs, the scrolled pediment or goose neck often seen on high boys and chest on chest dressers, and the scalloped apron that adorns the bottom of tables and chests. Shell and fan carving on drawer faces is another commonality of this particular style.

The tea table pictured here, functions as a side table and was hand made from curly maple with a finish that highlights the grain of this wonderful wood. The table measures 36” long, by 22” wide, by 23” tall. Note the cabriole legs that distinguish the piece as a Queen Anne style along with the scalloped apron that adds a counter-balance to the straight lines of the table’s top.

I have been making fine furniture for over 20 years. My work has primarily been devoted to building furniture in the style of the 18th and early 19th centuries. I build furniture that is custom made and one of a kind. In my work, I strive to maintain the style and craftsmanship of the original period while building each piece in such a way as to also bring out the essence and beauty of the wood itself.

Area Served: To minimize freight costs, I primarily service the Northeast, but will ship nationwide.
