Detail of a black leather dyed Mahogony Hall table
with a Koa veneered top

This was one of several production pieces that were sold at a furniture store in Philadelphia. I wanted to achieve a warm and tasteful look at a modest price. The top is a Koa veneer which has a very figured grain and a sparkle to it. The base is mahogany that I "ebonized" with leather dye. The dye is very dense and concentrated despite it's thiness and penetrates deeply into the grain. After several days of drying, I finished the piece with clear lacquer.
