Natural Edge Sofa TableArtist,Todd Reed, works with the natural edge of his custom cut wood to design unique furniture pieces for his clients. Shown; is a sofa table with a display shelf. The wood is kiln dried with its bark on to help preserve the character and sterilize the timber. He makes his solid wood pieces, one at a time, sanding, slightly distressing for an antique patina and staining to keep the joints clean. Then the piece is assembled and sprayed with several coats of satin finish. Todd then free-hand carves a pine bough, tree scene, wild flowers, or lake scene on the piece and either paints or rubs a staining gel into his carving, finalizing with an additional coat of finish.
