Beaches and Beach Parking In Wells
Southern Maine Coast
Drakes Island Beach in Wells is a long sandy beach and not as busy as the main section of Wells Beach. You can walk down to the Wildlife bird sanctuary with no houses - just the sea and sand. Fishing is great off the beach at that end. Drake's Island Beach is located off of route 1. Take a right onto Drake's Island Road.
Another favorite ocean spot is Crescent Beach. It's about a half mile south of Wells Beach which is at the end of Mile Road. Adults and kids alike love to explore in the tide pools. Finding starfish and crabs is always fun. Bring a strong pair of binoculars or a telescope and check out the seals on Bucklin Rock.
The main section of Wells Beach is great at low tide. At high tide, there isn't much beach to sit on, though.

Moody Beach is actually privately owned. Turn onto Bourne Avenue, across from the Wells Chamber of Commerce, and then take a right at the end. A number of years ago the oceanfront owners won a court case and they can ask you to leave their property if you're not "fishing, fowling or navigating". No public facilities but you can power walk down to public Ogunquit Beach in about 15 minutes.
